About

We index our own notes too

Musebrain started as an internal tool. We kept losing decisions in a folder of Markdown files and PDFs, and every assistant we tried wanted us to paste context back in each morning. So we built the boring version: chunk the documents, embed them, retrieve the five best passages, answer with citations.

Then we made the mistake of comparing the tools we were using and finding that almost every “best personal AI” list was an affiliate ranking with no methodology. This site exists because that is a bad way to choose something you will put your private notes into.

What we publish

  • Comparisons with evidence levels. Every review says what was verified, what came from vendor documentation, and what we did not test.
  • Guides that end in something runnable. Hosted and local routes both covered, including the local route’s real trade-offs.
  • The tool itself. Free to try, with the privacy implementation documented on the privacy page rather than a badge.

Editorial independence

Reviews are written by the same team that builds the product, and we disclose that. Our product appears in comparison tables. Where a competitor is a better fit — offline use, meeting capture, note auto-organisation — we say so and rank accordingly.
